Gloucestershire County Nursing Association,Nurses badgeA base metal and enamel community nurses badge for the Gloucestershire Nursing Association.The association was in operation from 1906 to 1947 so I believe this badge dates to the early 1940s.It features a shield bearing the arms of the City of Gloucester in a voided centre with the title around the edge and with the latin motto Propter Me-On Account of Me.Slight enamel loss to the edge near the OU of Gloucester.Pin and clasp in situ, although it also has a suspension loop for a bar or ribbon fixing.Makers name for J R Gaunt London

East Kent Community NHS Trust,Silver gilt Nurses BadgeA rather nice silver gilt and enamel nurses badge from the East Kent Community NHS Trust.I believe this to be a long service item rather than for training as such.It bears the "Canterbury" cross with the organisation title around the edge.In excellent condition, the pin clasp and safety roller catch are all good.I am unable to read the maker on the hallmark but it is marked for Birmingham 2003.It is engraved for Becky Staples 1981-2003.Height 32mm

Queens Institute of District Nursing, post 1982 Nurses badgeA bronze metal pin back badge for the Queen's Nursing Institute.This is the version issued after 1982 for Registered Nurses.It features the initials DN for District Nurse in a voided centre within an oval border bearing Issued by the Queen's Nursing Institute.This is topped by a queens crown.Good condition with pin, clasp and safety roller catch all good.Unmarked to rear.Height 40mm
East Sussex County Nursing Association,Silver Nurses Badge.A sweet little silver and enamel nurses badge for the East Sussex County Nursing Association.The central motif is a gilt nurses lamp on a navy blue enamel background upon a cross formed by two arrows pointing North and West.Condition is very good with pin and clasp intact.Makers mark for L.Simpson London Ltd.Hallmarks for LSLtd London 1953.Height 27mm

Nurses Co-operation London,boxed Nurses medalAn early nurses medal from the London Nurses Co-operation.This was one of the many early Agencies providing trained Nurses for home and hospital nursing.The badge consists of a red enamelled Greek Cross with an imposed white enamel circle bearing Nurses Co-Operation London.This is suspended from its original silk ribbon in red and white stripes, although the fixing is a pin and clasp.It is dated 1907 with the issue number 319 to the rear.This example is in its original cardboard box of issue.Approximate height 77mm

Queen Institute of District Nursing,Brass Badge with Neck ChordA Brass District Nurses badge for the Queen's Institute.
The origins of the Institute lie in the fund-raising among 'the women of England' for an offering to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her Golden Jubilee in 1887. The Queen chose to use the money to support district nursing and a plan for a district nursing service was sketched out by William Rathbone and Florence Nightingale. The aims of the Institute were to apply the Queen's gift to training nurses in district work.
A similar badge featuring the Royal Cypher of VRI in different metals,with different wording was issued over the lifespan of the Institute.This,the standard badge has a pin back fixing as well as a ring allowing it to be worn from a neck chord.The original blue and white chord is still attached,although rather dirty and frayed.
The badge is numbered to the reverse 21419.Unfortunately the roll of district nurses is only available upto the 1930 but I believe this is probably the badge issued to Jeanette Elizabeth Stibbs as these were part of the same auction lot.Height 42mm

Queen Victoria's Jubilee Institute For Nurses,Enamelled Car BadgeA Large Composite enamel and base metal Car Badge for the Queen Victoria's Jubilee Institute For Nurses. These would have been attached to the front of the District Nurses Car and denoted the Nurse on her visits. The pattern and title was changed in 1972 and this predates that change for the 1960s.In excellent condition but without the fixing screws.Height 64mm
