Royal Earlswood Hospital Silver Nurses Badge

A rare silver Nurses badge from the Royal Earlswood Hospital, the first specifically designed establishment for people with Learning Disabilities. It opened in 1847 near to Redhill in Surrey and closed in 1997.Height 32mm.I am unsure what sort of fixing this would have had .It has no signs of any pin fixing although the back is abraded as pictured. It does have the remains of a material to the crown which may have attached it to a ribbon? This is the only example of this badge I have ever seen so I would class it as being rare.Named to John Smithson Barwood and hallmarked for 1960,markers mark for Thomas Fattorini.
