Moorhaven Hospital,Plymouth Silver Matron's Prize Medal
Opened in 1891 as the Plymouth Borough Asylum it became Plymouth Mental Hospital in 1918 and changed it's name once more upon joining the NHS in 1948 as Moorhaven Hospital.It finally closed in 1993.
This silver medal is from 1950 and was a Rare Matron's Prize.It features the hospital crest with the motto Res Sacra Miser-A Person in Misery is a sacred matter.In very good condition with the enamel intact,pin and clasp intact.Engraved to rear Matron's Prize Madelaine M M Prout.Makers mark for Thomas Fattorini and hallmarked for 1949.Height 48mm .A Nice heavy badge .
