St Marks Hospital,London Silver Nurses Badge

A rare silver badge for St Mark's Hospital London issued to a German Jewish refugee during the Second World War. St Mark's opened as a specialist hospital for Fistula and other Diseases of the Rectum in 1854 in City Road.
This plain silver badge features the winged Lion of St Mark as featured on the emblem of Venice.Good condition although with some surface scratches.Pin and clasp intact .It is named to the rear Ruth Knopf From 8th February 1941 to 17th June 1943. Silver.As far as I can find out so far she was one of a number of German Jewish refugees who escaped prior to WW2 and who went on to become Nurses.She was naturalised in December 1947 when her address was a Red Cross Hospital in Hampshire. Definitely one for further research.
