St Stephens Hospital Chelsea,Nurses badge
Originally opened as St George's Union Infirmary in 1878(at the time the largest Infirmary in London) it was then renamed the Fulham Road Infirmary in 1915 and was again renamed the City of Westminster Hospital in 1924.It became St Stephen's Hospital when it came under the control of the London County Council.This Two piece composite badge features the portcullis of Westminster topped by the winged bull symbol of St Luke (Patron saint of Physicians and surgeons).This lies within the centre of an enamelled roundel with the hospital title around the edge.This is overlaid on a consecration or rounded cross in maroon enamel.
Condition is very good with enamel intact with only minor surface scratches.Pin and clasp intact.Engraved for D.Norbury 26.11.48 Height 33mm.
