City of Westminster Infirmary silver Nurses Badge
Originally opened as St George's Union Infirmary in 1878(at the time the largest Infirmary in London) it was then renamed the Fulham Road Infirmary in 1915 and was again renamed the City of Westminster Hospital in 1924 before it became St Stephen's Hospital when it came under the control of the London County Council in 1931.This design of badge was therefore only used for a few years.
The pierced design features the portcullis & chains emblem of Westminster within a roundel with the title City of Westminster Infirmary Nursing.This is imposed upon a roundel cross in black enamel edged with silver.
Condition is very good with enamel intact with only minor surface scratches.Pin and clasp intact.Engraved for K.V.Allan 1924.Hallmarked for 1924 Makers mark Vaughton & Son,Retailer Barnard 21 Heddon St.W.
