St John's Hospital Lewisham,Silver Nurses Badge

A superb example of a nurses training school badge from St John's Hospital, one of a number of similar badges I am listing from my private collection. They all feature the central design of the Stag's head from the Earl of dartmouth, holders of the Manor of Lewisham, complete with 5 pointed star taken from the arms of the Borough. Across the Antlers is tied a twisted wreath with a raven, alluding to the local river the Revensbourne,In its mouth the stag holds the rod of Asclepius. The three original training hospitals in the group were Lewisham,Grove Park & Hither Green & St John's.
This badge is from St John's hospital ,which closed in 1982.Once again in excellent condition with pin and clasp in good order.Hallmarked for John Pinches London and year letter for 1952.Height 33mm
