St Leonards Hospital Shoreditch,Cased Silver Nurses Prize Medal
A Rare silver Nurses prize medal ,from the 1920s,for St Leonards Hospital Shoreditch.Originally the Workhouse Infirmary for Shoreditch it had become known as St Leonard's Hospital by the early 1920s.Edith Cavell was Assistant Matron here from 1903 to 1906 prior to setting up her Nurses Training school in Belgium.
This silver prize medal features a figure of Florence Nightingale 1820-1911( she actually died in 1910!).It is suspended from the original blue silk ribbon from a silver pin back bar brooch.It is engraved to the recipient Beatrice Jaffa,Silver medallist 1928,and carries the hallmarks for Mappin & Webb,Birmingham 1927.It is in very good condition ,in its original lined presentation case from Mappin & Webb,Oxford Street London.Height 62mm
