A silver plated and enamel Nurses badge from the Royal Waterloo Hospital For Children & Women,Waterloo Bridge Road,London.
Probably the first institution in England devoted to the care of sick children, it was founded by Dr John Bunnell Davis (1780-1924) as the Universal Dispensary for Children in 1816. It finally closed in 1976.
This oval badge features a central image of the Madonna and Child with the Hospital title in light blue enamel around the edge.Makers mark for Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham.Engraved for M Walker Jan.1949.Good overall condition with pin and clasp intact,Fixing ring for safety chain present.Height 33mm
