A nice silver and enamel Nurses badge from the East Ham Memorial Hospital Training School for Nurses.Founded in 1902 as a cottage Hospital for East Ham it was supported by and later named for the Philanthropist John Passmore Edwards.After use as a Military hospital in the First World War,it was rebuilt in 1929 and renamed the East Ham Memorial Hospital.This badge design features the new hospital building above a ship representing the river and docks,and the ascending sun denoting the rise of the Borough.At the top is what appears to be an angel with sheaves of corn? The motto Abstinete Sustinete-Forebear,Bear is at the bottom on a white scroll.Some surface wear but otherwise good condition,pin and clasp good.Engraved to the rear Byrne,Catherine,Collette 18.10.48-15.10.51.Silver hallmarks for Thomas Fattorini,Birmingham 1951.Height 33mm
