New Cross General Hospital,Nurses Badge
A base metal and enamel Nurses badge from New Cross General Hospital at Deptford.This was originally a Fever Hospital run by the Metropolitan Asylum Board(MAB) and was known as the South Eastern Hospital.It became an Emergency Medical Service Hospital in World War 2 but was closed and used only as Nurses accommodation for Guy's Hospital until it reopened in 1953.It was largely run as an annexe for Guy's Hospital taking many recuperating patients.
The badge consists of a green enamelled anchory cross with a central motif of a barred gate.The title New Cross General Hospital is on a green circular band around this.
Some wear the the plated finish of the badge and some surface scratches but generally good condition.Pin and clasp intact.Engraved to F.A.B. 31.7.59 Height 32mm
