New Cross Guy's Hospital,Nurses Badge
A base metal and enamel Nurses badge from New Cross Hospital at Deptford. This was originally a Fever Hospital run by the Metropolitan Asylum Board(MAB) and was known as the South Eastern Hospital. It became an Emergency Medical Service Hospital in World War 2 but was closed and used only as Nurses accommodation for Guy's Hospital until it reopened in 1953.It was largely run as an annexe for Guy's Hospital taking many recuperating patients. The commitments with Guy's Hospital gradually increased and, in 1965, the Governors of Guy's Hospital took over control of the New Cross site, which became known simply as the New Cross Hospital, and this badge dates to this period.
The badge consists of a green enamelled anchory cross with a central motif of a barred gate. The title New Cross Guy's Hospital is on a green circular band around this.
Slight discolouration to the enamel of one arm and some surface scratches but generally good condition.Pin and clasp intact. Height 32mm
