London Temperance Hospital,Silver Nurses Medal

A Silver medal from the London Temperance Hospital.This was Founded in 1873 by the growing Temperance movement who believed in the abstinence of alcohol and the Hospital was founded on the principles of avoiding the use of alcohol in it's treatments.Located on Hampstead road it closed as a Hospital in 1990.This medal consists of an ornate silver cross with a large raised central silver boss with LTH in blue enamel.Around this boss are the words "For His Sake".The medal hangs from an original mauve silk ribbon,rather worn but intact,and has a pin back suspension bar.The back is engraved for Elsie G Swan London Temperance Hospital Aug 9-09-Aug 9-12.Hallmarked for Vaughton & Son,Birmingham 1911.
