Glasgow Western Infirmary,Gold,Doctor John Morton Surgical Prize Medal
A cased gold nurses prize medal,one of two awarded to the same nurse from the Glasgow Western Infirmary in 1932.This one is for the Surgical Prize being the Doctor John Morton medal.The medal is suspended from it's original silk ribbon with pin back brooch fitting.To this is sewn a small metal plaque denoting Surgical Medal.The face of the medal bears a cross inscribed Awarded to Mary Ewing Dunsmore 1932,below which are the letters DE.C.L D.This is within a border inscribed Western Infirmary of Glasgow Surgical Nursing. The reverse bears a coiled serpent with two surgical bowls,one topped with forceps the other a scalpel.Condition is good but slightly dirty with some surface scratches.It is hallmarked for JM and 9ct gold.(current scrap price for this is over £200)
This comes in it's own original fitted case ,the inside cover of which bears the title R Stewart Ltd,incorporating James Weir ltd 64 & 66 Buchanan street Glasgow.The outside of the case has been damaged where adhesive tape has been removed in the past. Height of medal to suspension wrong 35mm,drop of medal and ribbon 65mm
