United Sheffield Hospitals School of Nursing,silver nurses badge
A Silver and enamel Nurses badge from the United Sheffield Hospitals School of Nursing from the 1960s.The central design features the Caduceus or winged staff with entwined snakes.(This is wrongly attributed as being an ancient symbol of Medicine when in fact the Rod of Asclepius is the correct emblem).This overlays a book with the sheath of arrows and three Wheat sheaves taken from the arms of the city.Condition generally good but there are several chips to the enamel at the edges ,most noticeable by the S of Nursing.Pin,clasp and safety roller catch all good .Engraved to rear Royal Hospital Barbara Doreen Furniss 24.4.62-24.7.65 Hallmarked for Thomas Fattorini Birmingham 1963.
