Coppetts Wood Hospital,Nurses Badge
Opened in 1888 in Muswell Hill,as an Isolation Hospital,it continued to expand until it became part of the Royal Free Hospital Group in the late 1960s
Most of the Hospital closed in 2000, when services were transferred to the Royal Free Hospital. All that remained on the site was the 2-bedded High Security Infectious Diseases Unit, which had gained an international reputation in the treatment and care of patients with hazardous infections, such as lassa fever and rabies. It was staffed by the Royal Free Hospital when necessary, dealing only with patients suffering from viral haemorrhagic fevers.This has since moved to the Royal Free and the hospital finally closed in 2008
The badge features the coat of arms of the Borough of Hornsey,bearing two trees denoting the forests once a feature of the area,the crossed swords are taken from the Diocese of London and the motto Fortior Quo Paratior-The better prepared the stronger.In Very good condition with pin,clasp and safety roller catch all good.Unmarked to rear.Height 32mm
