Metropolitan Hospital,Dalston London.Nurses badge
Originally founded in 1836,from 1886 the Metropolitan was located on the corner of Kingsland Road and St Peter's Way in Dalston, serving the community of the area.It was later to be linked with the St Leonards Hospital from the 1960s but this design predates that amalgamation(The later design of badge is listed separately on this site)The hospital finally closed in 1977,although the building still exists as the Metropolitan Business centre.
The badge itself consists of a central shield with a black enamel cross on a red background .This is on a silver metal disc featuring a laurel wreath and Hospital title to the edge. The more common design of the badge is in a brass metal but I am unsure of the significance of the silver coloured version? Unmarked to rear ,pin and clasp good .Height 29mm
