A Heavy enamelled composite badge for St Alfege's Hospital.This was originally the Infirmary for the Greenwich Workhouse and after a short period as the Greenwich & Deptford Hospital it came under the control of the London County Council and was renamed after St Alfege,an archbishop of Canterbury murdered by Danish pirates at Greenwich in the 11th century.This badge depicts a central motif of a snake wound around a trident,rather like a nautical version of the Caduceus.this is on a central boss with the Hospital title around the edge.Behind this is a Navy blue Pattee cross on a Pale blue background.Condition good,pin and clasp good.Engraved to rear SEAN( State Enrolled Assistant Nurse) P.Roose 1959 Height 32mm
