St Stephen's Hospital London,Cased Silver Nurses Prize Medal
A rare Nurses Prize meal for St Stephen's Hospital,Chelsea.
Previously the Fulham Road Infirmary it had changed it's name to St Stephen's Hospital around 1925.The site is now occupied by the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.This prize medal dates to 1929 just prior to the Hospital being taken under the control of the London County Council.
The silver medal bears the portcullis emblem of Westminster with the words City of Westminster St Stephen's Hospital around the edge .This is suspended on a blue silk ribbon from an ornate silver pin back suspension bar.The face of the medal is in good crisp condition however the ribbon is badly worn and barely attached to the suspension bar.The rear is engraved 'Presented to Nurse Iris Hughes For First Place in the Nurses Examination October 1929'.Silver Hallmarks for Mapping & Webb Birmingham 1929.In it's original velvet lined fitted case with Mapping & Webb to silk lining.Some stains and scuffs but generally good.Height aprox 78mm
