New Cross Hospital London,Nurses Badge
A base metal and enamel Nurses badge from New Cross General Hospital at Deptford. This was originally a Fever Hospital run by the Metropolitan Asylum Board(MAB) and was known as the South Eastern Hospital. It became an Emergency Medical Service Hospital in World War 2 but was closed and used only as Nurses accommodation for Guy's Hospital until it reopened in 1953.It was largely run as an annexe for Guy's Hospital taking many recuperating patients.
The badge consists of a green enamelled anchory cross with a central motif of a barred gate in a voided centre. The title New Cross Hospital London is on a green circular band around this.
Minimal wear the the plated finish of the badge and some surface scratches but generally good condition.Pin and clasp intact. Height 32mm. This is the third variant of this particular badge that I have seen
