Bury Infirmary Nurses League Badge
A bronze metal pendant badge for the Bury Infirmary League. It features a round pendant badge which bears a Geneva cross with a central shield which carries the arms of Bury with the motto "Vincit Omnia Industria-Work Conquers All" On three of the arms of the cross are the letters B I L for Bury Infirmary League. The pin back suspension bar brooch bears the words Bury Infirmary. In good overall condition with original patina. To the rear it is engraved for G.Lovelady and it bears the makers marks for Fattorini & Sons Bradford.
I believe that the badge was issued to Gertrude Lovelady, born in 1880 and trained at the Parish of Liverpool Workhouse Infirmary between 1903-1906.She was a member of the College of Nursing in 1918 and must have later gone on to work at the Bury Infirmary to be eligible to join their Nurses League, probably in the 1920s as the makers marks date it to until 1928.Height 48mm
