City General Hospital Sheffield,Nurses Silver Prize Medal
One of three similar prize medals in what appears to be an unissued state,from the City General Hospital, Sheffield,at the start of the NHS.
This second one is of silver in its original,but damaged,cardboard box.It consists of a medal bearing the arms of the city of Sheffield.The shield supported by the gods Vulcan and Thor bears the sheaf of arrows above the three wheat sheaves.The motto"Deo Adjuvante Labor Proficit-With God's Help our Labour is Successful" This is suspended on a blue silk ribbon from a plain silver pin back bar brooch.The rear is unnamed but bears a laurel wreath and scroll with "Nil Nisi Optima-Nothing But The Best" It bears Silver hallmarks for F&S (Fattorini & Sons)Birmingham 1948 Medal height 36mm Drop 78mm
