St John's Hospital Lewisham,Silver Nurses badge
With it's origins in the Anglican Nursing Sisterhood of St John the Divine,which in association with Kings College Hospital,trained and provided Nursing sisters to hospitals including Charing Cross.By the 1920s,difficulties in recruiting to the order,led to the hospital setting up it's own School of Nursing and this badge dates to shortly after this.It takes the form of Silver Pattee/St John's/Maltese Cross mounted on a silver bar brooch.In the centre of the cross is the eagle and scroll associated with St John the Divine. The condition is good but with several minor surface scratches.The pin and clasp are good but slightly loose.It is engraved to C E Porter ( this is Constance Ethel Porter,cert.1922-1925.) It bears hall marks for WJD (William James Dingley) Birmingham 1930.Height 29mm Width 50mm
