Nelson Hospital,Merton Silver Nurses Badge

A Scarce Silver and enamel Nurses badge from the Nelson Hospital Merton. The original Hospital had a fund raising effort to expand the building in 1905,the centenary of the Battle of Trafalgar,and as Lord Nelson had lived in Merton they decided to rename it after him.The badge features Lord Nelson and has the hospital title on a blue band to the top rim.The Hospital School of Nursing amalgamated with that of Wimbledon Hospital in the 1950s and this age predates that merger.Some slight enamel damage and two dings to the rim.Pin and clasp good.Marked Sterling to rear.Height 25mm
