The Workhouse Infirmary Nursing Association

An extremely Rare early members badge for the Workhouse Infirmary Nursing Association.Founded in 1881.Initiated by Louisa Twining the daughter of Richard Twining the Tea Merchant, she was an early campaigner to raise the standard of Nursing in Workhouse Infirmaries.Princess Mary Adelaide, the mother of queen Mary, allowed her name to be given to the Association and the badge reflects this with the initials M&A entwined with a crowned anchor. On the band around the edge are the words Founded 1881 Mary Adelaide Nurses. It has unfortunately been highly polished at some stage but the detail is still good. The rear is engraved 1883 Elizabeth Jenkins. Unfortunately I have,as yet been unable to find any listings under this name in Burdetts or the RBNA to identify where this nurse may have worked.
