Hairmyres Hospital ,Scottish General Nurse ,silver pair of Nursing badges
A pair of silver and enamel Nursing badges to the same nurse.The first is from Hairmyres Hospital School of Nursing in Lanarkshire.The design features a shield with a red cross on top of a saltire with the motto Summa Petenda-Aim For The Highest .In very good condition with only one very small chip to the edge and some surface scratches.Pin and clasp good.Engraved to rear No 3 John Leggat. Hallmarked for BB&MC(Birmingham Badge and Medal Company) Birmingham 1962.Height 37mm
The second badge is a Registered General Nurse Scotland ,engraved for J Leggat A 29224,this is recorded as John Leggat who was entered onto the register on 30/3/51 having qualified from Hairmyres Hospital in 1951.The badge has had a couple of knocks to the edges and has lost it's safety chain loop ,but otherwise good condition.Silver hallmarks for Hamilton & Inches Birmingham 1950.Height 27mm
The difference in dates between issue of the RGN and the Hairmyles badges,along with the issue number of the latter suggests that it may only have been created in the early 1960s and awarded retrospectively?
