London Homoeopathic
An extremely rare silver nurses badge for the London Homeopathic Hospital.This was founded in 1849 by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Hervey_Foster_Quin who studied under the founder of Homoeopathy Dr Samuel Hahnemann.
It always struggled to establish itself against conventional medical treatments but was well supported by wealthy contributors enabling it to expand on the Great Ormond Street site.It was given the title Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital in 1948 and joined the NHS later that same year.
This badge features a portrait in relief of Samuel Hahnemann 1755-1843 with the hospital title around the edge.The Latin motto Similia Similibus Curentur-Let Like be Cured by
Like is the tenet of homoeopathy.Good condition with minimal surface rubbing.Engraved to rear P.Cheffrins 1942-46(during which time the Hospital treated casualties of the Blitz)
Makers mark for Thomas Fattorini Limited Birmingham,hallmarked silver 1937.Height 31mm
