Holborn Infirmary,Silver Nurses badge

An absolute stunner of a badge and one of my all time favourites,This is a silver gilt and enamel nurses badge for the Holborn Infirmary. It consists of a two piece construction with a concave five petalled rose in white enamel with gilt edge.In the centre is an enamelled shield with a St Georges cross with the wounded hart of St Giles in the centre, topped with three scallop shells. This is the coat of arms of Holborn.
Holborn Infirmary was renamed Holborn & Finsbury Hospital in 1921 before being renamed the Archway Hospital in 1930 which then in turn became part of the Whittington Hospital.
Condition is very good although there are small fractures to the enamel at the tips of some petals.Pin and clasp good.Engraved to the rear Holborn Infirmary Lucy Webb 1915.Silver hallmarks for RS( Spencer) Birmingham 1918 Height 35mm
