General Nursing Council for England & Wales,Chrome SRN,RMN,RNMD Badge
An unusual triple registered Male Nurses badge from the General Nursing Council of England & Wales. The chrome and enamel rose shaped badge has the usual image of the goddess Hygeia flanked by two sheaves of Daffodils. With a button hole back fixing to the rear it is engraved for SG Badland SRN 1220 24.3.48, RMN 9918 27.2.48,RNMD 586 23.4.48, thus receiving three Qualifications in the space of two months!
The registers show this as being Sydney George Badland. His SRN training was an intensive course from 1947-48 at St Mary's Hospital Portsmouth. His RMN and RNMD were both earned by RMPA Examination but unfortunately the locations of training cannot be confirmed. At that time Male nurses were recorded on a supplementary part of the register, hence the low SRN Number.
In good condition,Height 27mm
I have since found out that this gentleman finished his career as Chief Male Nursing Officer for the North Wales Hospital in Denbigh.
