Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital,Nurses Badge
A bronze metal nurses badge from the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital London. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was the first woman doctor in the UK who in 1866 opened a Dispensary to provide treatment to women, later to become the New Hospital For Women. The Hospital was renamed after its founder shortly after her death in 1918. For many years this continued to provide treatment for women by women. It continued to expand in the 1930s and included a School of Nursing. After the hospital came under the control of the NHS it struggled to keep the training school so I believe this badge may date to the 1930s.Condition is good with only minor surface wear. The pin has been professionally replaced.Height 26mm
