Hill End Hospital St Albans,General Nursing Council pair
A pair of badges awarded to the same nurse over the course of her career.The first is for the General Nursing Council For England & Wales in chrome.This is named for M M Wilson SRN 115928 10.6.42 (This is Mari Megan Wilson,nee Jones,who trained at Hackney Hospital between 1938 and 1941)
The second is a silver and enamel badge for Hill End Mental Hospital St Albans.The design consists of a cross with rounded ends within which is a shield with a golden saltire in enamel(the arms of the Kingdom of Mercia which were granted to the town).To either side of this are the emblems of the Rose,Daffodil,Thistle & Shamrock for the four countries of the UK.In the centre is the figure of Pandora opening her box of troubles onto the world.The title Hill End Hospital appear at top and bottom.This is engraved to the rear Mari Megan Wilson 30.8.63-27.3.65 Makers mark for Toye & Co hallmarked T& Co London 1956 Height 31mm This lady obviously decided upon a change in speciality undertaking mental nursing some 20 years after her general training.
