A pair of silver badges awarded to the same nurse.The first is a silver members badge from the Royal British Nurses Association.It features a Pattee or Maltese cross with the Royal crown in the centre.In each corner of the cross are the Rose,Shamrock,Leek and Thistle of the four countries of the UK.The suspension bar bears the motto of the RBNA, Steadfast and True.Founded in 1887 as the first professional organisation for Nurses in the world, it's aim was for the organisation and registration of Nurses.See http://www.rbna.org.uk/background.asp
The rear is named for Amy Rea Cooke 4496. Silver hallmarks for Elkington & Co Birmingham 1891.According to the records(http://www.kingscollections.org/nurses/about) Amy Rea Cooke registered on 12th July 1901, having gained her certificate at Addenbrookes Hospital,Cambridge from 1895 to 1898.Condition is very good.Height 46mm
The second item is a silver and enamel badge from the General Nursing Council For England & Wales.This is engraved for A R Cooke SRN 3875 19.5.22.This is also in excellent condition.Height 26mm.Two interesting badges from an early nurse.I am also listing a similar pair from this lady's sister and should you wish to purchase both listings please contact me as I will discount the pair.
