A chromed metal and enamel badge for the Stepping Hill School of Midwifery.There had been Midwifery training at the hospital since 1929 but this pattern of badge was introduced in 1977.The lozenge shape represents womanhood, with the upper triangle bearing the seal of the Health Authority, containing a white Geneva cross on which is a rod of Asclepius.The two circles with wavy lines represent water and the healing springs of Buxton.In the lower triangle are three stars.The two smaller stars represent the previous Maternity hospitals and the larger the Star of Bethlehem, a sign of birth.Condition is generally good.Pin,clasp and safety roller catch all in good order.Named to the rear for Susan Schofield 1987/89. makers mark for Fattorini.Height 51mm I am also listing this lady's General Nursing Badge from Stockport School of Nursing.
