St Francis Hospital Haywards Heath,Silver Mental Nurses Badge

A rare silver and enamel Mental Nurses Badge for St Francis Hospital Haywards Heath Sussex.Originally the Brighton County Borough Asylum it became St Francis upon joining the NHS in 1948.The octagonal design features a cross design with a central depiction of St Francis of Assisi with a bird and deer, to one side are two fishes, to the other the 6 martlet birds from the arms of Sussex. I believe this is the second pattern of wording and slightly smaller than the original version designed in the 1950s.Condition is excellent with pin, clasp and safety roller catch all good. Named to K E Bush 9.9.70.Silver hallmarks for TF Birmingham 1969.Height 28mm
