Royal College of Nursing And National Council of Nurses of the United Kingdom,President Brighton and Hove District

An extremely rare neck badge and ribbon in silver gilt and enamel for the Royal College of Nursing and National Council of Nurses of the United Kingdom.The medal, which is suspended from an original blue silk neck ribbon, features a large silver gilt pattern of dress badge that was in use between 1963 and 1975 when the RCN amalgamated with the National Council of Nurses. The badge stands proud of a larger oval of sun burst rays and has a suspension bar with President Brighton and Hove District in blue enamel.Condition is excellent.it bears hallmarks for TF Birmingham 1972. The National Council of Nurses used a system of District President, Vice President,etc but I assume that when the structure changed to that of RCN Branches,this badge became defunct. Height 74mm
an accompanying note states that it belonged to Poppy nettle ton who had also been the Mayoress of Brighton prior to moving to South Africa.On her death the badge was returned to the UK to another Mayor of the town.It is rare to find these items coming onto the market.
