Royal Infirmary Edinburgh School Of Nursing, Silver Nurses Badge

A silver and enamel Nurses badge from the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary SoN, in a rather battered condition as pictured, it is one of two badges I am listing, both awarded to two sisters who undertook their training at the Astley Ainslie Institute which was affiliated with the RIE for training purposes.
It features the emblem of the Royal Infirmary, the Pelican feeding it's young with it's own blood, noted as a symbol of dedication and service to others. The Nurses League of the School of Nursing is still today known as the Pelican League;http://pelican-nurses-league-rie.org/index.php

It is engraved to the rear for M S Dunbar 2782(This was Mary Sutherland Dunbar who was registered on 27/3/36) . It bears hallmarks for H & I (Hamilton & Inches) Birmingham 1934 Height 29mm
