An enamelled Nurses badge from the late 1990s which was a privately issued item to replace the loss of the award of the General Nursing Council badge after 1983.It could be purchased upon the proof of registration by UK Nurses and was engraved with an individual registration number.This badge was replaced in 2004 when the UKN&MA incorporated the National Guild of Nurses and became the Guild of Nurses & Midwives(UK) which also issued a similar badge.
The design features a red enamel geneva cross with a disc in blue enamel with a figure of Hygeia,the Greek( and Roman) Goddess of Healing.on a green band around the edge is Nursing & Midwifery United Kingdom.A small silver Lamp of Learning is in the top arm of the cross.Excellent condition.Pin and clasp good.Makers mark for Fattorini and issue number 76 to the rear.Height 34mm
