Fairfield Hospital Stotfold , Mental Nurses Badge

A chrome and enamel badge for Fairfield Mental Hospital in Bedfordshire.It was originally opened in 1860 as the Three Counties Asylum, serving Bedfordshire,Huntingdonshire and Hertfordshire.It finally closed in 1999.See ;https://www.threecountiesasylum.co.uk
The badge was designed and produced by Toye,Kenning & Spencer and was first manufactured in 1965.It features a Swan's head and Hart from the arms of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire respectively.In the centre is a snake and staff being the rod of Asclepius ,the symbol of Medicine.Very good condition with pin and clasp intact.Unmarked to rear.
