St Mary's Hospital Paddington,Silver GNC, nurses badge pair.
An ever popular pair, namely a St Mary's Hospital Paddington "Penny" along with it's matching silver GNC badge.
A Large nurses badge from St Mary's Hospital Paddington.Nicknamed the St Mary's Penny, the badge's face features the Madonna and child from the Hospital's seal.the reverse bears the latin motto " Quodcunque Facere Potest Manus Instanter Operare" around the edge, this translates as"Whatever thy hand is able to ,do it earnestly" This badge is named to K Hoddinott January 1940(This is Kate Hoddinott who is shown as having trained at st marys from 1936-39. The badge looks to have literally gone through the wars with various dents and dings to the edges. The pin has been lost and a contemporary replacement has been soldered on in it's place enabling it to be worn again(I would advise against wearing it as it is quite loose) Some surface wear to the face.
The second item is a General Nursing Council For England and Wales silver and enamel badge named for K Hoddinott SRN 102469 26.1.1940.
This must be one of the last of these in silver as once the pre war stock was exhausted the GNC issued badges in chromed metal.
