A pair of badges for midwifery training ,being a silver and enamel badge for the Mothers Hospital Hackney along with a Royal College of Midwifery members badge.
The Mothers Hospital in Lower Clapton road, Hackney was originally set up and run by the Salvation Army.It was unusual at the time as it also accepted unmarried mothers who were often scorned by other maternity establishments.This badge dates to the 1960s when the hospital had joined the NHS and operated as part of the Hackney Group of Hospitals.The badge takes the form of others within the group, of a Cross pattee with two shields at the centre bearing a tower and a lamp.Excellent condition with no enamel damage and retaining its pin, clasp and safety roller catch.Makers mark for Thomas Fattorini Ltd,Hallmarked for TF Birmingham 1961.
Accompanying this is a members badge for the Royal College of Midwiferyfeaturing the year 1881 when it was established and the Pomegranate plant, associated with midwifery and fertility.
