Calderstones Hospital,Male Mental Nurses Badge
A scarce Nurses badge from the Calderstones Hospital,Whalley near Blackburn.It opened in 1915 and was to be a Hospital for the Mentally Subnormal,however it was utilised as a military hospital for casualties from World war one up until 1920.It then resumed it's intended use as a Learning Disability Hospital until much of the site closed in 1995.This small brass and enamel nurses badge features three fishes ,taken from the coat-of-arms of the Abbot of Whalley Abbey.Named for 1974 A G Crick .This Badge has a button hole back fixing,as were issued to Male Nurses.Makers mark for Thomas Fattorini Ltd,Regent Street Birmingham Height 26mm
