A scarce Midwives badge for the Home for Mothers and Babies situated in Samuel Street Woolwich.Founded in 1905,the badge was designed by the Matron and Honorary Secretary,Mrs Parnell & Miss Gregory.This small badge,to be worn suspended on a ribbon or mounted on a suspension bar, is in the shape of an acorn(signifying strength and new life) with the motto Esto Sol Testis-Be a Sign of The Sun.
The reverse is engraved,Home for Mothers & Babies,CMB(Central Midwives Board) and the name of the recipient Elvira Gilbert
