St Mary's Hospital for Women & Children,Plaistow,Silver plated nurse badge

A Silver plated and enamel badge for St Mary's Hospital for Women & Children Plaistow ,E13.Founded in 1893 and eventually closed in 1985.This circular badge which dates to 1942-46 bears the Madonna and infant on a flight of stairs with hospital cot and screens behind.Condition is generally good ,although there is some surface wear to the plated finish .Pin and clasp intact, safety chain in situ. The rear is marked,ALSO AT, engraved for Nurse Schweikert 1944-48. this appears to be Pauline Schweikert who is shown in the GNC register as having been entered onto the Roll of Assistant Nurses under ruled14(1) and 4 on June 4th 1949.It may be that this lady passed her Hospitals examination but not her States final ,thus receiving her badge but not being a SRN.The same thing happened to my own mother who came to England after WW2
Height 33mm with original lined Fattorini case
