League of St John's House Nurses,silver Members Badge

A rare silver and enamel badge for the League of St John's House Nurses.Founded in 1848 as one of the earliest Training School for Nurses, it provided six nurses to journey to the Crimean war with Florence Nightingale. It was a provider of Nurses for both Kings College and Charing Cross Hospitals.It was later to provide training for Nurses from St Thomas' Hospital in private Nursing.
The Nurses League was formed in 1901 .The badge features a central eagle with halo on a scroll bearing Unity is Strength.Good condition with pin and clasp intact.Named for E f Clayton,hallmarks for C&R Ltd Birmingham 1903.
