Lincoln Typhoid Epidemic 1905 Silver Medal
A very rare Nurses silver medal issued for those staff who attended to patients during the Lincoln Typhoid Epidemic of 1905.As with the earlier typhoid epidemic at Maidstone the local Nurses treating the victims were supplemented by contributions of staff from other nursing institutes and the London Hospital.
These medals of thanks were contributed by one of the largest local businessmen Colonel Joseph Seward Ruston who was later to serve as Mayor.
The face of this swivel mounted medal features Lincoln cathedral above the date 1905.The rear has an angel bearing a laurel wreath, below which is a scroll.This has Presented by J s Ruston Esq.for Services Rendered by Nurse Granger during the Typhoid Epidemic Lincoln 1905.The medal is suspended from the original maroon and blue silk ribbon. with a buckle mount.Condition is very goodie its original velvet lined presentation case.This is labelled Thomas Ottley Medallist 78 Spencer St. Birmingham Established 1814.Height 100mm
