Netherne Hospital,Mental nurses badge pair

A pair of badges for what had originally been the Surrey County Asylum near Coulsdon. It was later renamed Netherne Hospital and was eventually closed in 1994.
The Badges feature a central Cnut cross against a white six pointed star with Netherne Hospital on the red band at the base. Very good condition with pin clasp and safety roller catches both good. The larger size one is 29mm and the smaller just 20mm.Unfortunately I have no idea why the smaller one exists?
