Scottish Women's Hospital,World War 1 Medal trio
A rare grouping of badges and medals to a member of The Scottish Women's Hospital for service in the First World War.
The SWH was founded by Surgeon and Suffragette Elsie Maud Inglis.seehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Women%27s_Hospitals_for_Foreign_Service
They set up and ran Field Hospitals in France ,Serbia, Salonika and Russia.The Serbian campaign was particularly harsh and when the Austrian,Bulgarian and German forces threatened to overwhelm the Serbian army they retreated over the mountains into Albania accompanied by many of the SWH staff.
This group of medals and badge consists of a brass and enamel Scottish Women's Hospital 1914-19 badge. Good condition but missing its pin.Height 30mm
The British War medal and Victory medal are named to the rim J Davie.This being Miss Jeannie Davie,an orderly with the SWH who served in Serbia and participating in the retreat through Albania.She later went on to serve in France.
The final medal is that awarded to those who participated in the retreat, the Albanian Commemorative Medal.The ribbon is this is extremely worn .
