Vintage Bandage Winder,Royal Salop Infirmary School of Nursing

An interesting piece of Nursing History being a wooden and metal frame for use in rewinding bandages. It was the usual practice to wash and reuse bandages and this adjustable frame was used to rewind them into tight rolls ,ready for reuse. it has a brass screw at the top which allows the width to be adjusted and thus keep the bandages tight .The central rod with wooden handle would have the end of the bandage wrapped around it and then it could be wound up and, once complete , the rod slides out fro enable the bandage to be removed. It was a task often given out to junior nurses or students, particularly on night duty!
This was comes from the Royal Salop Infirmary school of Nursing and is in good condition.it measures approximately 27mm wide and 24cm tall.
