John Radcliffe Infirmary, silver Nurses"Gleam" Prize medal
A rare silver nurses pendant badge from the John Radcliffe Infirmary.It features an image of Florence Nightingale with her lamp and bears the phrase "A Gleam of God's Own Heaven" leading it to be known to staff as "the Gleam". The reverse sports a tree with panels carrying the title Radcliffe Infirmary County Hospital Oxford 1752.This badge was first awarded to outstanding Nurses before the design was also used in bronze for the Hospital badge.This design was replaced in 1941 and whilst found in bronze is seldom seen in the silver version.It is marked to the rim Dorothy Hilda Reeves 1927 with hallmarks for London 1927, makers mark rubbed but possibly Toye & Co
Condition is generally good with one or two minor knocks .Pin and clasp are good.Height 50mm
