St Thomas' Hospital, Nightingale School of Nursing "Silver" Prize medal

An extremely rare prize medal awarded by the Nightingale School of Nursing at St Thomas' Hospital.
The prize medals were awarded from approximately 1917 with a design created by Countess Gleichen, a famous sculptress of the time. There were prizes in a Gold, Silver and Bronze category, which were originally in those metals but later in plated finishes.
The design features the relief of Florence Nightingale to one side.Around the edge is "I
Have Taught Thee In the Way of Wisdom ".To the reverse is a seated female figure tending to a lamp.A small Owl(probably representing Athena,FN's pet) perches on a board bearing 1946, indicating the year of issue. it has the latin Scholla Sct Thomae-School of St Thomas to the reverse. Around the rim it is named for Catherine Fowler. She is shown as having trained during the war years at was awarded the silver medal, although this is of a plated finish rather than Silver.In its original velvet lined, red leather case. Minor wear to the finish in places but otherwise good condition.
